A Penco A22M may or may not have an adjustable saddle via thumbscrews. There is bit of variance between the Penco acoustic models depending on what year the guitar was manufactured. Reverse engineered and built to spec, Penco produced some of the closest replica's of the Martin D-28, D-41, D-45, and D-45 12 models in existence today. All their acoustic guitars were laminate. The Ibanez line was distributed on the West coast of the U.S., the Greco was exclusively for Japan, and Penco was distributed on the East coast of the U.S. Penco made Martin and Gibson style acoustic guitars. These were identical to the Ibanez Destroyer and the Greco Destroyer of the same period.
The Penco brand was also put on "lawsuit" Korina-finished Explorer styled guitars. They also made excellent 12 string acoustic guitars. Penco also made bolt neck copies of Les Paul electrics, SG guitars and basses, Rickenbacker 4001 basses, Stratocaster/Telecaster copies and the odd mandolin and banjo. The sound waves from the strings of an acoustic guitar resonate through the guitars body, creating sound.
It has the expected dings, and wear for its age, but is a nice survivor.
Here is a vintage Made In Japan Penco acoustic guitar that is still in very nice cosmetic and playing condition. All their acoustic guitars were laminate. Its still for sale now over a year later but has dropped to 895. The Penco brand was of relatively high quality, however their acoustics were all laminates (meaning they had a laminate top, back, & sides.) Penco made Martin and Gibson style acoustic guitars. It looks like that piece of gear is gone. and did a great job of it! The tone is VERY balanced and projects very well… While a great many older Martin and Gibsons would certainly give this guitar a run for it’s money, there are NONE that can hold a candle to it’s sound and playability in this price range… and I say that with oodles of experience behind me… I’ve set this guitar up (please see my feedback concerning my setups) and put Martin SP Phosphor 12’s (my all-time favorite acoustic string)… I’m an accomplished finger picker and solo acoustic performer, and I can say with no reservations that this is a most worthy instrument… Some history: Penco was a brand of guitars manufactured circa 1974 to 1978 in the same factory (Hoshino Gakki) in Japan as the Ibanez guitars and was distributed by the Philadelphia Music Company.
